Scene Break. Scene Break. Scene Break.
Dom sat at the bar, a large white hat on his head, in a white suit and looking like a cross between a mafia don and some old geezer sat out on a Spanish homestead. He was chatting to a lively young woman behind the bar and trying to ignore the attentions of another woman who was offering her wares to him. He had spoken to her briefly earlier, and she had nothing to offer in terms of what was happening within the town. However, the young woman behind the bar was much more forthcoming, especially when Dom kept on offering to buy her a drink at the same time.
âItâs just got silly. I came over here from England for a quiet life, the bar, sunshine. What more do you want? Suddenly theyâre having this terrorist issue. I mean these are beach resorts. Why do they need terrorism?â
âTruth,â said Dom. âWhy indeed?â and went to clink his bottle of beer on hers.
âThe way I see it is this is the terrorists flexing their muscles and the police need to get on top of them. Thatâs, of course, if the police are even bothered about them; half the police force could be in it for all we know. Theyâre just not happy with the mainland. Independence for the islandsâcan you imagine it? Wasnât that long ago, the country was struggling within Europe, needing help because of the monetary situation.â
âThereâs been a number of incidents, havenât there?â
âAll the papers reported a number of things. The one I know about is the one on the beach,â said the woman. âYou see, the local mayor was down there; heâd organised a photo shoot on the beach. Apparently, they came in and knifed him. Some bodyguard or something tried to help and got taken away. Theyâre saying around here, itâs for extortion. Theyâre looking for a bidder to buy him, so to speak. Didnât quite understand that. I donât know if I just . . . I donât understand the word for ransom correctly, but it was definitely to buy him. That just seems a bit mad doesnât it? Still, I wouldnât want it to put people like you off living around here,â said the girl.
âWell, Iâm having a look, you know. Do you own this place?â asked Dom.
âNo,â said the girl. âI would love to, though.â
âIâd like my own as well down on the beach, youâd sit at my beach bar. The Beach Bum we could call it.â
The girl smiled back at him. âReally? I always wanted that.â
âYou on my arm, weâd go for it on a bar together, out on the beach, bikinis and Hawaiian shirts here, there, and everywhere.â
âWell, youâd suit the Hawaiian shirt,â she said.
Dom gave a smile, âAnd so would you.â
The girl looked at him. âI thought youâd want me in a bikini.â
âIâd want you the way you want to be,â he said. âYou look good behind a bar though. Must be plenty of guys
